In response to the four reported cases of Cerebro Spinal Meningitis in Asaba and Warri, Delta State Ministry of Health, says it has adopted certain measures to effectively manage the health challenge and prevent its spread to other parts of the state.
Briefing journalists at the Ministry of Information Conference Room in Asaba, Commissioner for Health, Dr. Nicholas Azinge, said as part of this prevention and management strategy, all Disease Surveillance and Notification Officers in the 25 local government areas of the state have been directed to intensify awareness campaigns on the measures of preventing the disease.
Arrangements have also been concluded with the Pediatrics Departments of Central Hospital in Warri, Delta State University Teaching Hospital in Oghara and Federal Medical Centre in Asaba, to send experienced medical doctors to carry out Lumbar Puncture and collect samples for suspected cases of the disease and to update the skills of medical officers in various hospitals.
He further restated that there is no outbreak of meningitis in the state and urged the public to be vigilant and report to the nearest hospital any noticeable signs and symptoms of the disease.
