Sunshine Stars goalkeeper
David Ariyo has been handed a 12-match suspension for "breaching the NPFL
Framework and Rules."
Ariyo was charged by the
League Management Company, LMC, which oversees the Nigeria Professional
Football League, NPFL, for assaulting an assistant referee during his team's
2-1 home loss to Plateau United on 7 June.
He will now miss most of the
remainder of the season and will only be available for Sunshine Stars' last two
matches against FC Ifeanyiubah and Remo Stars.
The goalkeeper's club also
got charged for breaching the league rules for failing to control their
players, leading to the assault of one of the assistant referees.
Sunshine Stars, fourth from
bottom, will now play hosts to Gombe United in a relegation six-pointer at the
Dipo Dina Stadium this Sunday.
