Texas University to induct Okagbare into Hall Of Fame

Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare has been announced as one of the five legendary athletes that will be inducted into the University of Texas El Paso Athletics Hall of Fame for 2017.

The induction of Okagbare and four others has been fixed for October 27 at a ceremony at the Larry Durham Sports Center.
The Sapele-born sprinter, who is widely seen as Nigeria’s Queen of the tracks, has an Olympic silver medal to her name in the long jump before rewriting the record books with University of Texas El Paso track and field in 2010.
She also won the NCAA outdoor championship in the 100 meter dash and also took gold in the long jump, becoming the first athlete to accomplish that feat.
Clinching gold in the 100 meter and 200 meter race at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, Okagbare became the fourth woman ever to achieve the feat.
