Determined to give a befitting look to its
capital city, the Delta State Government, yesterday, commenced the demolition
of illegal shanties, stalls and other structures built along the Okpanam dual
carriage road in Asaba.
The State Commissioner for Lands and
Surveys, Hon. Chika Ossai, who led the demolition team, alongside the General
Manager of the State Urban and Regional Planning, Amaduobogha Peter, explained
that the demolition exercise was necessitated by the desire of the state
government to retain the original master plan of the capital city and ensure
its enhanced beauty.
Ossai said the demolished illegal
structures were denting the initially planned aesthetic outlook of the state
and undermining the initial design of the state capital city, noting that the
state government will no longer condone such indiscipline.
He therefore warned all individuals and groups holding
portions of utilised land in the core areas of the state to develop them within
a record time else, the state government may be compelled to revoke their
ownership and reallocate such portions of land to other interest(s).
