HoS briefs Buhari over N30bn housing scheme

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Winifred Oyo-Ita, yesterday briefed President Muhammadu Buhari on the Federal Integrated Staff Housing programme.

The Federal Government has so far committed over N30 billion to providing affordable houses for workers under the housing programme launched last year. The head of service briefed Buhari behind closed-doors at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja. She told State House reporters that the president wanted an update on the service so far, especially on the 2017-2019 Head of Service Strategic Plan.

She said her office was working with the developers and the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, especially in the area of mortgage facilities for civil servants. She noted that the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, had been cooperating with her office on the housing scheme. She said the Head of Service Strategic Plan from 2017-2019, inaugurated in March, was to reposition the Federal Civil Service for efficient service delivery and progressive development of the nation.

She said the plan, designed to develop an efficient, productive and incorruptible and citizen-centred civil service, would focus on capacity building, maintaining rules and regulations as well as training the civil servants on core mandates.

The Head of Service added that the plan would also digitalise the entire civil service structure and entrepreneurial development and commercial orientation of the service to generate additional revenue for the government.
