Members of newly inaugurated Delta State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy charged to be diligent in carrying out their duties

Chairman and members of the newly inaugurated Delta State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy have been charged to be diligent in carrying out their duties of recommending deserving prisons inmates to be granted amnesty by the Governor.

The State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice,
Barr. Peter Mrakpor, gave the charge while receiving members of the newly inaugurated Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy, led by its chairman, A.P.J. Okpakpor, who paid him a courtesy visit in Asaba.
The Attorney-General, who expressed serious concerns and worries on the issue of prison congestion and deteriorating
state of prison facilities across the state, disclosed that some Awaiting Trial Inmates spend as long as four years in prison custody awaiting trial.
He therefore charged the council to visit the prisons and liaise with the prison authorities in order to make informed decision.
