Delta State distributes 220,000 Palm seedlings to farmers
In a bid to stimulate the production of palm oil, Delta State Government has distributed 220,000 elite palm seedlings to 250 farmers drawn from across the state.
Speaking at the occasion held at Ejeme-Uno, in Aniocha South Council Area of the state, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, who was represented by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Hon. Austin Chikezie, said that the oil palm scheme is aimed at supporting each farmer to develop five hectares of palm plantation, over time.
Participants in the scheme will also be provided with all necessary inputs, including fertiliser and steel collars, while information on best practices and mentoring on oil palm production would also be provided by government through its Agricultural Development Programme.
Meanwhile, a processing mill has been provided for the benefitting cooperative societies.
